Questions
Can the WEN DF1100T run GE PWJV10 10,000 Btu/h window air conditioner?
Runs. Running draw 625 W fits within 8,300 running watts. Startup watts were not published; 11,000 starting watts is at least 3× the running draw, the common planning allowance for a compressor or pump start.
What watts were compared?
Generator: 8,300 running W and 11,000 starting W on gasoline. Appliance: 625 W running, startup not published.
How long will it run?
Fuel runtime depends on total load. Published runtime: 8.5 hr at 50% load on gasoline, 3 hr on a 20-lb propane tank.
Where did the numbers come from?
WEN product page and manual: gasoline 11000 surge / 8300 running; propane 9500 / 7500; 4 GFCI 5-20R, L5-30R, 14-50R, 12V DC; 6.6 gal; 8.5 hr gas at 50%, 3 hr propane (20 lb). No L14-30R: a 30A 240V inlet needs a 14-50P to L14-30R adapter cord, which Willrun does not assume. ENERGY STAR lists model PWJV10W**# at 10,000 Btu/h, CEER 16, and 468.8 kWh/year, with a variable-speed compressor. Rated input is 10,000 ÷ 16 = 625 W. 625 × 750 ÷ 1,000 = 468.75, which rounds to the listed 468.8 kWh. Startup watts are not published.
Safety first
- Run a generator outdoors only, at least 20 feet from the house, with the exhaust pointed away from doors, windows and vents. Never in a garage, basement, shed or crawlspace, even with the door open.
- Carbon monoxide is odorless and can kill in minutes. Keep battery CO alarms working inside the home.
- Never backfeed a house by plugging a generator into a wall outlet or dryer receptacle. It can energize utility lines and kill a lineworker or a neighbor.
- Connecting to home wiring requires a transfer switch or a listed breaker interlock with a power inlet box, installed by a licensed electrician and permitted where your jurisdiction requires it.
