Questions
Can the Westinghouse iGen2200 run Amana AMND501BW dehumidifier, about 50 pints/day?
Runs. Running draw 485 W fits within 1,800 running watts. Startup watts were not published; 2,200 starting watts is at least 3× the running draw, the common planning allowance for a compressor or pump start.
What watts were compared?
Generator: 1,800 running W and 2,200 starting W on gasoline. Appliance: 485 W running, startup not published.
How long will it run?
Fuel runtime depends on total load. Published runtime: Up to 12 hr at 25% load.
Where did the numbers come from?
Westinghouse product page: 2200 peak / 1800 running; 1.14 gal; up to 12 hr at 25%; 46.3 lb; duplex 5-20R and 2 USB. Older spec sheets list 10 hr at 25%. ENERGY STAR lists 49.43 pints/day, integrated energy factor 2.01 L/kWh, and 520 kWh/year. Operating draw at the rated test condition is (49.43 × 0.473176 L/pint ÷ 24 h) ÷ 2.01 L/kWh × 1,000 = 485 W. That is the draw while it is removing water at the rated rate, not a whole-year average. Startup watts are not published.
Safety first
- Run a generator outdoors only, at least 20 feet from the house, with the exhaust pointed away from doors, windows and vents. Never in a garage, basement, shed or crawlspace, even with the door open.
- Carbon monoxide is odorless and can kill in minutes. Keep battery CO alarms working inside the home.
- Never backfeed a house by plugging a generator into a wall outlet or dryer receptacle. It can energize utility lines and kill a lineworker or a neighbor.
- Connecting to home wiring requires a transfer switch or a listed breaker interlock with a power inlet box, installed by a licensed electrician and permitted where your jurisdiction requires it.
