Questions
Can the DuroMax XP12000EH run Zoeller Model 53 3/10 HP sump pump, 115 V?
Runs. Running draw 1,116 W fits within 9,500 running watts. Startup watts were not published; 12,000 starting watts is at least 3× the running draw, the common planning allowance for a compressor or pump start.
What watts were compared?
Generator: 9,500 running W and 12,000 starting W on gasoline. Appliance: 1,116 W running, startup not published.
How long will it run?
Fuel runtime depends on total load. Published runtime: 19 hr at 25% / 8 hr at 50% on gasoline; 14 hr / 7 hr on a 40-lb propane tank.
Where did the numbers come from?
DuroMax product page and spec sheet: gasoline 12000 / 9500; propane 11400 / 9025; 120/240V 30A twist-lock and 50A; 19/8 hr gas and 14/7 hr propane (40-lb) at 25%/50%. Zoeller lists the Model 53 at 3/10 HP, 115 V or 230 V, and 4.8–9.7 A. The 115 V automatic model in Zoeller's 50-series technical table is 9.7 A. Running watts used here are 9.7 × 115 = 1,115.5 W. Startup amps are not published. How often the float runs is site-specific, so no duty cycle is stored.
Safety first
- Run a generator outdoors only, at least 20 feet from the house, with the exhaust pointed away from doors, windows and vents. Never in a garage, basement, shed or crawlspace, even with the door open.
- Carbon monoxide is odorless and can kill in minutes. Keep battery CO alarms working inside the home.
- Never backfeed a house by plugging a generator into a wall outlet or dryer receptacle. It can energize utility lines and kill a lineworker or a neighbor.
- Connecting to home wiring requires a transfer switch or a listed breaker interlock with a power inlet box, installed by a licensed electrician and permitted where your jurisdiction requires it.
